The Contest in Context: Laughlines and Lifelines

  • Twelve Gates Arts 106 North 2nd Street Philadelphia, PA, 19106 United States (map)

Join Haverford College’s Hurford Center for the Arts and Humanities, Twelve Gates Arts, and the Philadelphia Chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR-Philadelphia) on April 1 for a healthy dose of irreverent laughter and buoyant conversation. In the latest event from The Contest of the Fruits, we discuss the role of comedy for contemporary Muslims. Two comedians, each representing a unique convergence of global histories, come together for a dialogue about the power of comedy to allow us to say or reveal what would otherwise be left hidden or unspeakable — comedy as a means of survival in a world that is often confusing and violent.

Esra Karakaya is a journalist and talk show host from Berlin, and former member of the immensely successful comedy group Datteltätter. Moses Solomon, or Musa Sulaiman, alternatively known as Moses the Comic, is our very own homeboy, a Philadelphia native who has toured the world with his unique stand-ups.

This event will take place virtually via Zoom. A login link will be emailed to you prior to the event.
